Hope everyone is staying safe and eating healthy. The current situation would definitely have more people cooking by themselves and thinking more about adding immunity boosting food to their diet.
In the recent days (mostly as we are now spending more time at home with kids with not many outdoor activities) I have been reflecting about how I had incorporated better eating habits in the last few years. Education for Ishaan has always been one of my top priorities but I would say food and health, as mostly for parents, definitely would be on the top. Personally, due to Ishaan having innumerable allergies, I had to study a lot about different foods and especially around superfoods. I must thank our pediatrician as well whose guidance and support has been very helpful as well. We started to include many superfoods and healthy items to our diet. Over a period of couple of years, the impact has been dramatic. Ishaan has overcome most of his food allergies. Our health has improved and I personally have also lost over 15 pounds in around last eight months and feel a lot more energetic than I have ever been.
Food can have immense impact on our body and minds as we all know. Immune boosting food and superfoods especially, as I have experienced, are life changing. As in most forums today people are discussing about food that can help them fight infections and overall have a better health, I thought of sharing some of my experiences/suggestions.
Raw ginger(in the chana salad & the green chutney),raw garlic(in the guacamole), raw turmeric (mostly with grass fed-organic milk), cinnamon(in smoothie),sesame seeds(til ka laddu),flax seeds & chia seeds(in smoothie),pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds (can be sprinkled onto almost about anything), makhana (fox nuts/makhana- roasted in ghee & turmeric powder),roasted black chana (suggestion to eat as salad to keep it exciting), avocados (mostly as guacamole which kids love), dried fruits like dates, apricots, figs and raisins, and finally smoothies with kale, black raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries and yogurt (and some seeds mentioned above)
For Mommy nuts like almonds and walnuts, with dark chocolate (85% and beyond, the more the better).
Goes without saying other green vegetables, like spinach, broccoli etc., and fruits if being eaten are definitely great as well.
Swipe pictures to see how we have included some of these in our food.
Cooking is not rocket science but is art with science behind it and it is mostly around knowing the food and its benefits. I have shared the benefits of food that Ishaan eats with him, which is not only exciting for him but I think will also help him as he grows up and is more informed about eating right from childhood days itself.
Definitely do discuss with your doctor and do your own research as well before introducing any of the new foods to your diet.
